children's ministry

Raising children in the knowledge and love of God is an incredible privilege and responsibility. It’s a job, not only for parents, but for the whole church, as we work together to form our youngest members as disciples of Jesus Christ, and to learn both with them and from them.

Each Sunday morning, children at Good Shepherd will learn, wonder, sing, and play in a safe environment with volunteers committed to serving our children and helping them grow in faith.

Ages: Pre-K through 1st Grade

Based on Montessori principles, Godly Play invites children to enter in to the Biblical story and wonder about the big questions of the faith. Children have an innate sense of the presence of God; the Godly Play approach helps young people explore their faith through story, and gain religious language to enhance their spiritual experience of worship and wonder.

JUNIOR CHOIR (9:15 AM) | choir rehearsal room in church

Ages: Second to Fifth Grade

Junior Choir is an incredible formation program that gives children the opportunity to grow in their spiritual lives, to participate in a meaningful way in our Episcopal liturgy, and to make new church friends. Open to all 2nd through 5th graders, students in Junior Choir learn so much more than music (though they learn that beautifully, as well!).

Alongside the music, students learn the stories behind the songs that they sing, touching on things like the Bible, sacraments, and our Episcopal liturgy. And perhaps most importantly, Junior Choir members learn to be, not merely participants in the liturgy, but leaders, helping direct our prayers and praise to God.

building faith brick by brick| lego-based sunday school (9:15 AM) | education wing

Ages: Second to Fifth Grade

Building Faith Brick by Brick offers a culturally relevant, hands-on way to explore faith stories. Students in 2nd through 5th grade who aren’t singing in the Junior Choir are invited to come and learn about Bible stories by building with Legos.

Children's Worship (during 10:30 service)

Ages: Second grade and younger

In addition to our Sunday School classes during the Sunday School hour, we also offer Children’s Worship during our 10:30 service. Children’s Worship helps children second-grade and younger worship Almighty God in age-appropriate ways, according to Episcopal tradition, while simultaneously preparing them to worship with the entire gathered community by third grade.
